SOMOS VC is a nonprofit organization founded in 2019 to expand opportunity and shape the next generation of investors by building a more inclusive and robust pipeline of talent in the venture capital industry. Since its inception, SOMOS VC has cultivated a leading community of investors committed to advancing greater inclusion in venture capital. SOMOS VC’s core programmatic efforts include a) an eight-week fellowship for early-career professionals, designed to prepare the next generation of venture leaders; b) the Avanza Summit, a professional development convening for individuals at the pre-partner level to build networks and sharpen their skills; c) their Annual Summit, the organization’s flagship event that brings together the broader venture capital community for networking, collaboration, and insight-sharing; and d) data and reporting initiatives, focused on tracking and analyzing inclusion within the venture ecosystem. Ultimately, SOMOS VC’s work advances a more equitable and inclusive venture capital industry.
LatinxVC is the first non-profit organization focused on growing and supporting the Latinx venture capital ecosystem through its community of over 150 experienced Latinx venture capital professionals. The organization aims to increase the representation of Latinx professionals in venture capital, help Latinx venture investors build their careers and networks, improve access to capital for Latinx-led venture firms, and serve as a reliable source of education and data for the industry. LatinxVC holds annual events, provides mentorship and training programs, and produces an annual report that generates useful data on Latinx representation in this field. This award supports an organizational strategic planning effort to establish a stable foundation and sustainable growth path. The key beneficiaries of this project are venture capital professionals from historically marginalized communities, which in turn, supports entrepreneurs from these same communities through increased access to capital.
