Jazz at Lincoln Center

Founded in 1987, the mission of Jazz at Lincoln Center (JALC) is to entertain, enrich, and expand a global community for jazz through performance, education, and advocacy. Based in New York, NY, JALC offers a variety of educational initiatives to introduce audiences of all ages and abilities to jazz. Its Essentially Ellington program is a big-band jazz curriculum for high school students. Its Let Freedom Swing series explores jazz’s connections to U.S. history for elementary and middle school students. With this award, JALC offers the Essentially Ellington and Let Freedom Swing jazz education programs in Chicago Public Schools.
