Rural News Fund

Invest Appalachia, in partnership with the Appalachia Funders Network, supports the Press Forward Central Appalachia chapter and strengthens the field of rural journalism. To further their regional collaboration, the regional network provides its partners, funders, journalists, and local leaders with the needed infrastructure to coordinate across one of the most under-resourced regions in the nation.

Rural News Fund

Invest Appalachia is the first blended capital impact investing platform of its kind within Central Appalachia and one of the first in the nation specifically focused on serving rural or coal-impacted communities. The Appalachia Funder’s Network (AFN), in partnership with Invest Appalachia (IA), and Media Growth Partners is launching the Rural News Fund.  The Rural News Fund aims to address the growing number of news deserts in Central Appalachia, which includes West Virginia, southwest Virginia, eastern Kentucky, western North Carolina, eastern Tennessee, and Appalachian Ohio.
