The Intertribal Agriculture Council, based in Billings, Montana with a regional office on the Cheyenne River Sioux Reservation, seeks to pursue and promote the conservation, development and use of tribal agricultural resources for the betterment of Native people. The organization is Native-led and governed, and its mission is grounded in the idea that helping Native communities self-determine their pursuit of food sovereignty is a successful model of technical assistance, contributing to the rebuilding of resilient and robust food systems for all Native peoples: urban, rural, and reservation communities alike. The Foundation’s award provides general operating support to the Intertribal Agriculture Council’s Technical Assistance Network, which includes at least one specialist in each of the 12 Bureau of Indian Affairs’ regional offices. In addition, Foundation support helps in an effort to bring on a new technical assistance capability in the form of a Financial Solutions Program that seeks to address agricultural credit issues across Indian Country.
