The Initiative for Research, Innovation and Advocacy in Development (IRIAD) is a nonprofit organization that uses research, training, policy, and advocacy to transform communities and shape governance and development for inclusive and life-changing experiences for ordinary citizens. With this X-Grant, IRIAD convenes an expert meeting to carry out an in-depth analysis of critical issues of development and governance in Nigeria and Africa in the aftermath of a series of military coups in Niger, Mali, Burkina Faso and Guinea. The findings inform public education, policy advocacy, and engagement of key stakeholders on the quality of elections, governance, and development. IRIAD disseminates the outcomes of the meeting through traditional and new media.
The Initiative for Research, Innovation and Advocacy in Development (IRIAD) is a nonprofit that uses research, training, policy, and advocacy to transform communities and shape governance and development for inclusive and life-changing experience for ordinary citizens. With this award, IRIAD hires a senior consultant to develop guidelines, regulations, and policy briefs based on the 2022 Electoral Act. IRIAD also is creating a forum which brings together officers of the Independent National Electoral Commission with representatives of civil society to discuss the documents produced by the consultant. This award strengthens the conduct and administration of elections in Nigeria.
The Initiative for Research, Innovation, and Advocacy in Development (IRIAD) is a not-for-profit, multi-disciplinary, strategic think tank with a mission to strengthen electoral governance and accountability in Nigeria. This award strengthens accountability and anti-corruption in Nigeria through sensitization and mobilization activities for young people, women, and other marginalized groups, and documentation and dissemination of learnings among critical actors and institutions. IRIAD is conducting civic education for young people on the connections between democracy and governance; elections, accountability, and anti-corruption; and electoral accountability and citizens’ involvement. It is documenting elections offenses using open data sources and producing policy analyses to galvanize discussions on electoral accountability and the establishment of an election offenses register and enforcement mechanism in order to achieve long-term solutions to impunity and electoral accountability deficits in Nigeria. In addition, IRIAD is developing a repository of election and accountability materials to foster learning and research and to influence policy reform options. This award is part of an election accountability package of awards to bring attention to anti-corruption and accountability issues during the 2023 elections and beyond, and to strengthen community and marginalized voices in accountability and anti-corruption in Nigeria. The award contributes to On Nigeria’s goal of reducing corruption and strengthening accountability, transparency, and participation.
Initiative for Research, Innovation and Advocacy in Development is a research and advocacy focused Nigerian nonprofit promoting electoral accountability and democratic development in Nigeria. This award strengthens knowledge production and dissemination to inform and advocate electoral accountability reforms in Nigeria. It is expected to galvanize stakeholder voices in electoral reforms and broader accountability discourse in Nigeria.
