Global Network Initiative

The Global Network Initiative is a multistakeholder collaboration that sets a global standard for responsible company decision-making to promote and advance freedom of expression and privacy rights across the technology ecosystem. The award supports the Strategic Multistakeholder Dialogue on artificial intelligence governance issues in February 2026 and related activities.

The Global Network Initiative (GNI) is a unique collaboration of companies in the information, communication, and technology (ICT) sector; human rights and press freedom NGOs; investors; and academics who engage in shared learning and promote policies that support human rights. Through its work, GNI aims to seed a global standard for corporate responsibility and accountability in the ICT sector, with a particular focus on advancing freedom of expression and privacy. The grant provides general operating support to the organization.

In support of the Global Network Initiative’s (GNI) first assessment process of its member companies to evaluate their implementation of the organization’s Voluntary Principles and Implementation Guidelines meant to help protect and advance freedom of expression and privacy rights within the information, communication and technology sector.
