The Friends of the British Council is implementing a project through the British Council in India, to improve learning outcomes and livelihood prospects of students from municipal schools, particularly girls, in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, by enhancing their language and other 21'1 century skills. The project also builds a sustainable and replicable system to support in-service teacher education, continuing professional development and ongoing support for teacher and student learning. British Council uses a participatory approach to monitoring and evaluation and a system- integrated framework of accountability for teachers and head-teachers to ensure effective implementation and rigorous evidence building.

Friends of the British Council works to develop high-quality education systems to deliver skills that help both young people and economies prosper and that promote stable societies. The Fast Forward project implements and tests an in-school model for work-based learning and teaching of 21 st century employment relevant skills in 20 government secondary schools in Lagos, Rivers, and Cross Rivers states in Nigeria. The project builds employability and life-skills with 1,000 16- 18 year old students through an approach that brings innovative, participatory methodologies into the classroom; provides work-based learning opportunities; and builds partnerships between schools, students, and employers.
