With more than 30 member countries, Philea unites over 7,500 public-benefit foundations that seek to improve life for people and communities in Europe and around the world. Philea’s vision is for philanthropy to use its full potential to co-shape and support a pluralistic, just, and resilient society that centers people and planet. It nurtures a diverse and inclusive ecosystem of foundations, philanthropic organizations, and networks working for the common good. This gift supports Philea’s general operations.

Philanthropy Association Europe (Philea) is an association of European foundations and philanthropic organizations located in other parts of the world. Its members include over 7500 public-benefit foundations that seek to improve life for people and communities in Europe and around the globe.  Philea operates a number of thematic networks to address critical issues of interest to its members. With this X Grant, two of these working groups, the Funders Forum on Sustainable Cities and the Disability Thematic Network, lead a learning tour in Madrid, Spain, called “Cities of the Future: Unlocking Sustainable and Inclusive Solutions.”

The European Foundation Centre (EFC), a network of philanthropic organizations from more than 30 countries, works to strengthen the philanthropic sector in Europe. EFC fosters peer-learning; enhances collaboration; builds a solid evidentiary base on timely and relevant issues; and raises the visibility of philanthropy’s value and impact. This award supports a thematic network within the EFC, called the Funders’ Forum on Sustainable Cities (FFSC). The FFSC provides opportunities for funders to participate in international exchanges that highlight best practices in economic, social, and environmental sustainability and increase the effectiveness of philanthropies in supporting equitable economic development in cities.
