Equal Access International (EAI) is an international nonprofit with headquarters in Washington, D.C. and offices in 12 countries, including Nigeria. Since 2001, EAI has worked across Africa and Asia to create positive social change for millions of under-served people by combining innovative media programming with community engagement. With this final renewal, EAI is continuing its television drama series—Kwana Casa’in (“90 Days”) and Dadin Kowa (a village)—to reinforce integrity, anti-corruption, and accountability and to build trust between communities and decisionmakers. Both series promote positive role models of accountability in governance and the public. The award is expected to promote accountability through behavior change. EAI is collaborating with other Foundation grantees to implement this project.

Equal Access to Knowledge Development Initiative is an international nonprofit, with headquarters in San Francisco and a Nigerian office in Kano. Since 2003, it has worked across Africa, Asia, and the Middle East to create positive social change by using innovative media programming that engages communities and informs, educates, and provides skills to people to improve their lives. In 2013, the Initiative established AREWA 24, a first-of-its-kind, Hausa-language television channel that builds social cohesion and promotes accountability in communities. With this award, Equal Access is examining accountability in episodes of Dadin Kowa (an award-winning weekly Hausa-language soap opera with 25 million viewers); developing and amplifying accountability-related content for radio and television shows and social media; and hosting a film competition. The project contributes to On Nigeria’s goal of reducing corruption by building an atmosphere of accountability, transparency, and good governance.
