A one-year, $70,000 grant to the Eastern Educational Resource Collaborative on behalf of the U.S.-Africa Network Committee will support a consultation to explore building a new U.S. constituency for Africa. The consultation will bring together advocates, activists, academics, and policymakers from the U.S. and Africa for discussions and development of ongoing collaboration across geographic, generational, and issue-focus boundaries. The initiative expects to develop a structure for ongoing strategic discussion around global issues such as international resource flows and climate change in which a strong civil society voice might influence government and private sector policies. MacArthur funding will be used to facilitate the participation of activists and scholars from Africa in the consultation and the subsequent community fora.
