Rich Hill follows four families in a struggling Missouri town over one year, exploring what it is like to live for generations in poverty in the rural United States. Each family struggles in different ways with addiction, abuse, poverty, and incarceration. The film shows the ways in which poverty spreads into every aspect of a child’s experience – education, nutrition, hygiene, health, and emotional well-being – and the resilience of communities through humor, hope, and the dream of a better future for the next generation. A MacArthur grant will support costs associated with production and post-production, including producer/director salaries, and associated technical costs.
