The AI, Policy, and Practice Initiative (AIPP), brings together researchers and scholars from a wide range of disciplines for shared learning and collaboration at Cornell University and Cornell Tech. Housed within Cornell University’s Ann S. Bowers College of Computing and Information Science, AIPP has four primary pillars of work. First, it builds a cross-disciplinary community that generates productive collaborations across multiple perspectives and forms of expertise. Second, it conducts research in order to examine the social impacts of AI and other data-intensive technologies. Third, it prioritizes intergenerational mentorship and pedagogy in order to build up the next generation of technology researchers. Finally, AIPP works to translate its work into practice in order to ensure that technology policymaking, as well as public conversations about technology, are informed by research and grounded in both social and technical understanding of data-intensive technologies and their potential impacts. The award provides flexible support to AIPP.
