Concordia University’s mission is to be welcoming, engaged, and committed to innovation and excellence in education, research, creative activity and community partnerships. It dares to be different and draws on its diversity to transform the individual, strengthen society and enrich the world. The award provides flexible support to the Foundations for Abundant Intelligences (Abundant Intelligences) initiative. Abundant Intelligences seeks to effectively integrate and adapt existing advanced computational methods, such as artificial intelligence (AI), into Indigenous Knowledge systems; develop new computational practices from within Indigenous contexts to support the flourishing of Indigenous communities; and use the knowledge that is generated to help guide the development of AI, generally and globally, towards a more humane future. The initiative brings together a network of university and research institutes and Indigenous community-engaged organizations located in Canada, the United States, the Pacific, and Aotearoa to advance the work. Outputs from Abundant Intelligences include workshops, research papers and books, cultural and artistic projects, and the creation of new frameworks, practices, and tools to advance the development of AI.
