Global Center for Journalism and Trauma
The Committee to Protect Journalists is a nonprofit organization dedicated to press freedom and journalist protection that serves as the fiscal sponsor of the Global Center for Journalism and Trauma. The Global Center for Journalism and Trauma is an international network of journalists, journalism educators and health professionals dedicated to improving media coverage of conflict and violence and supporting the journalists who report on these events and issues. It conducts research; provides fellowships, awards, and newsroom training; creates online resources to advance ethical practices in covering traumatic events; and offers professional treatment for journalists in need of mental health care. This grant provides support for the Global Center for Journalism and Trauma to continue its work in expanding innovative training and support for journalists encountering violence and tragedy in the practice of their craft.
The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) is an independent, nonprofit organization that promotes press freedom worldwide and defends the right of journalists to report the news safely and without fear of reprisal. CPJ’s emergency program provides rapid response funding and support to journalists in crisis. This grant supports CPJ’s ability to respond to the growing number of emergency requests from journalists and journalism organizations.
The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) is a global leader in the press freedom and press protection movement. Its international staff monitors and reports on press freedom violations and attacks on journalists; conducts diplomatic and legal advocacy on behalf of detained journalists; and provides emergency relocation, personal protection equipment, and financial assistance to journalists in need. This grant provides general support for CPJ's monitoring, advocacy, and emergency response activities. The intended outcome of this grant is to ensure that Committee to Protect Journalists has adequate and flexible resources to respond swiftly and vigorously to the threats to journalists and the exercise of free press.

The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) promotes press freedom worldwide with an international staff that monitors and reports on press freedom violations and attacks on journalists; conducts diplomatic and legal advocacy on behalf of detained journalists; and provides emergency financial and relocation assistance to journalists in need. MacArthur funding supports the creation of an Emergencies Department, which greatly enhances CPJ’s ability to help journalists worldwide reduce personal safety risks, take precautionary measures to minimize digital security attacks, and escape from life-threatening situations.
To collaborate with the Globe Independent Press Syndicate to monitor freedom of the press in Russia (over two years).
To support the project Legal Defense of the Media in Russia and the Newly Independent States of the Former Soviet Union.
To support a research and public education project to promote press freedom in Mexico.
