$500,000

Color of Change Education Fund (CoC) is the nation’s largest online racial justice organization. It was formed in 2005 in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina to use online resources to strengthen the political voice of African Americans. Today, it uses both in-person and online tools and strategies to engage African Americans in shaping culture, policies, and institutions to better reflect and respond to the needs of their communities, with a special focus on criminal justice reform, economic and media justice, and efforts to build the political influence of Black Americans. This project grant supports CoC’s Storyworld Project, a new initiative to drive systemic change in Hollywood’s storytelling practices related to race, racism, and social justice. Building on its deep connections in Hollywood and across the media and entertainment sectors, CoC is developing a series of interactive and immersive experiences to engage people in every role and at every level across entertainment, influencing the decisions that executives, producers, writers, creatives, marketers, distributors, and many others make about what Americans see onscreen. Its goal is to change the terms and incentive structure in Hollywood that have enabled the creation of mass entertainment based on inaccurate and harmful narratives related to race and racism, while promoting standards, practices, and examples of representations that are authentic, accurate, and responsible.

Color of Change is the nation’s largest online racial justice organization, motivating decision-makers in corporations and government to create a more human and less hostile world for Black people in America.
