Founded in 1981, the Chinese Mutual Aid Association (CMAA) is a nonprofit organization located in Chicago's Uptown neighborhood on the city's North Side. Founded by Asian immigrant leaders to provide a sense of community belonging and to access resources for newly arrived immigrants, it has evolved into a pan-immigrant social services agency. It currently assists clients from over 40 countries, including from Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe, Latin America, and the Middle East. In addition, CMAA offers workforce development services, youth programming, in-home elderly care services, immigrant legal representation, housing assistance, and operates Illinois' only Asian American Pacific Islander-led Small Business Development Center. This award supports the general operations of CMAA.
