$600,000

Chicken & Egg Pictures (Chicken & Egg) is a nonprofit organization created in 2005 to provide women non-fiction directors with grants, creative support and mentorship, and the opportunity to learn from a collaborative community of artists. Chicken & Egg operates five professional development and grant programs; MacArthur funds will support three: the Accelerator Lab, which awards grant funds and workshops for filmmakers at work on their first or second feature documentary; the Diversity Fellows Initiative, which provides workshops and mentorship to early career filmmakers of color; and the Impact and Innovation Initiative, which funds short-form and immersive nonfiction digital content. Chicken & Egg’s programs are open to women filmmakers from around the globe. The outcome of this grant is that more women filmmakers from diverse backgrounds are able to complete nonfiction multimedia content on social issues, from underrepresented perspectives that go on to reach wide audiences.
