Founded in 2016, the Center for Fiscal Transparency and Integrity Watch (CeFTIW) is a nonprofit with a mission to promote transparency and accountability in Nigeria's public and private sectors. CeFTIW utilizes technology-driven solutions to monitor public-sector expenditures, strengthen the integrity mechanisms of public officers and institutions, and promote private-sector accountability. This award to CeFTIW supports the attendance of the On Nigeria Criminal Justice (CJ) cohort to the 21st International Anti-Corruption Conference (IACC) in Vilnius, Lithuania in 2024. The participation of the CJ cohort in the conference provides the opportunity to share experiences and learn new strategies for tackling corruption and institutionalizing accountability. Grantees amplify their work, successes and challenges, and lessons for other countries.
The Centre for Fiscal Transparency and Integrity Watch (CeFTIW), established in 2016, is a nonprofit with a mission to promote transparency and accountability in Nigeria's public and private sectors. CeFTIW utilizes technology-driven solutions to monitor public-sector expenditures, strengthen the integrity mechanisms of public officers and institutions, and promote private-sector accountability. The previous award to CeFTIW deepened criminal justice reform through support to government agencies like the Federal Ministry of Justice. It also released the Transparency Integrity Index, a first-of-its-kind annual index on public institutions’ compliance with principles of transparency, integrity, and open governance. With this final tie-off award, CeFTIW continues to provide technical assistance to government agencies to advocate for the implementation of the new anti-corruption laws. CeFTIW continues to update the annual Transparency and Integrity Index and includes Nigeria’s local government areas in the next round of data collection. CeFTIW enhances its organizational strength to deepen its criminal justice reform efforts. CeFTIW implements this project with the criminal justice cohort and other Foundation grantees. The award is expected to strengthen transparency, enhance accountability, and reduce corruption in Nigeria.

CeFTIW and partners are carrying out a series of research and documentation activities to build on Nigeria’s current anti-corruption agenda and improve upon it during the next presidential administration. This project promotes the momentum of anti-corruption and accountability in Nigeria. CeFTIW is coordinating the implementation of the project with Human and Environmental Development Agenda (HEDA).

The award is consistent with On Nigeria's goal of promoting accountability, transparency, and participation.

CeFTIW is strengthening Nigeria’s anti-corruption architecture by supporting criminal justice reform and the implementation of enabling policies, programs, and laws. It is undertaking public education and providing technical assistance based on requests to the National Assembly, the Federal Ministry of Justice, and civil society leaders on anti-corruption laws and policies. It is updating its online repository of corruption-related information. CeFTIW is coordinating the implementation of the project with other Foundation grantees. This award contributes to On Nigeria’s goal of reducing corruption by supporting Nigerian-led efforts that strengthen accountability, transparency, and participation.
