AXS Lab is a nonprofit organization dedicated to using media and technology to advocate for people with disabilities. Founded by filmmaker Jason DaSilva in 2009, AXS Lab’s projects include the AXS Map, a crowdsourced tool used to map and rate accessible stores, businesses, and community spaces by and for people with disabilities, and the AXS Film Fund, launched in 2021, a grantmaking program specifically to support the work of underrepresented nonfiction filmmakers with disabilities. MacArthur funds support general operations to ensure AXS Lab has more capacity to support disability communities and artists with disabilities through media. This grant supports general operations, and the intended outcome is more resources for filmmakers with disabilities to create nonfiction work that tells underreported stories in a way that is accountable to communities depicted.
