Avesta Capital addresses the challenges of economic inequality and climate change by providing a bridge between the technology startup and impact investing ecosystems through its “Seed Impact Investing at Scale” model. The organization is partnering with leading business accelerators to invest in and support a portfolio of 75 to 100 technology-enabled impact startups that have the potential for superior financial returns and social impact, while also providing an up-front impact framework, through the Foundation-supported Impact Management Project, to ensure that these companies align impact with their business. Through this project, Avesta will assess: a) the efficacy of the Impact Management Project’s approach across a large cohort of 75-100 pre-seed/seed stage startups; and b) the ability to execute on this innovative investment model with a small investment team. Data from this project will be generated and disseminated widely through: a) a white paper; b) a presentation to members of the Impact Capital Managers group; c) panel discussions at industry events; and d) a webinar, delivered either independently or through a partner organization like Toniic, Mission Investors Exchange, the Global Impact Investing Network, or others. Although a for-profit entity, Avesta is providing this research on an at-cost basis because it believes in the mission and importance of the Impact Management Project’s methodology for the impact investing field. Avesta is in a unique position to provide input on the relevance of this framework for early-stage ventures because of its investment model focused on a large number of seed-stage enterprises across a range of industries.
