Established in 2003, Al-Habibiyyah Islamic Society is a nonprofit organization engaged in Islamic education and the promotion of good governance. A previous On Nigeria award enabled Al-Habibiyyah to gain significant traction with its "Be Just" campaign, working with non-mainstream Islamic scholars to infuse accountability messaging into their sermons, trainings, and radio and television programs, which reach millions of worshippers. With this exploratory award, Al-Habibiyyah builds human and material infrastructure for a stronger faith-based local philanthropic field in Nigeria. The award enhances the capacity of faith-based platforms to support non-traditional faith-based social change.

It works with Islamic scholars to infuse accountability messaging into their sermons, trainings, and radio and television programs, reaching millions of worshippers. In this project, Al-Habbibiyyah hosts a series of peace summits and radio and television programs to enlist citizens’ understanding and support for peaceful conduct ahead of the 2023 general elections.

With this final award, Al-Habibiyyah uses behavior change approaches and accountability messaging to promote integrity and anti-corruption in faith communities. This project is implemented with other Foundation grantees. The award contributes to the reduction of corruption and promotion of accountability through behavior change.

The project contributes to On Nigeria’s goal of reducing corruption by building an atmosphere of accountability, transparency, and good governance in Nigeria.
