ACOS Alliance

The ACOS (A Culture of Safety) Alliance is a global coalition of more than 160 news organizations, journalist associations, and press freedom NGOs working together to champion safe and responsible journalism practices. Its mission is to embed a culture of safety within the journalism industry by coordinating and leading the development of standards, protocols, and trainings to ensure the safe practice of independent reporting. This gift supports general operations.

The ACOS (A Culture of Safety) Alliance was formed in 2014 to promote the safety of freelance and local journalists reporting from hostile environments and conflict areas. It coordinates and leads a coalition of news organizations, freelance journalists’ associations, and press freedom NGOs to develop standards, protocols, and trainings to ensure the safe practice of international reporting. This award supports coordination activities, training workshops, and safety initiatives of the ACOS Alliance. The intended outcome is a news industry that values and prioritizes the safety of those often risking their lives to bring accurate and on-the-ground reporting from dangerous places.
