Founded in 2001, as the California Alliance for African American Educators (CAAAE), A Black Education Network (ABEN) ensures Black students have access to education that reinforces their culture, identity, and history. ABEN combines and disseminates evidence-based research, education strategies, and culture, offering professional development, student-focused programming, and curricula designed to empower educators and Black students. ABEN's mission is to reverse the backward slide in racially disparate educational outcomes by facilitating academic and cultural excellence wherever Black children and youth are - using culturally informed research, technology, parent education, and networking in local communities and diaspora contexts. Specifically, ABEN supports and partners with educational institutions - schools, churches, non-profit organizations, educators, researchers, parents, corporations, foundations, especially those who focus on African-centered education - that work to ensure Black students reach their full potential.
