Fairness by Design: How Can Big Data Advance Opportunity for All?

May 23, 2016 | 9 AM - 2:30 PM

Today, it’s easier than ever to make predictions and decisions by analyzing an unprecedented wealth of data. While corporate use of “algorithmic decision-making tools” is widespread, government agencies at all levels are also using these techniques to guide decisions, increase efficiency, inform policy, and shape service delivery. Yet with these advances come risks: Without careful design, application, and oversight, these tools could be used to harm vulnerable populations and reinforce existing inequities.

Join a live webcast hosted by MacArthur, the Ford Foundation and Open Society Foundations about how to ensure these technologies are applied in ways that serve all Americans. Speakers will include Domestic Policy Council Director Cecilia Muñoz, US Chief Technology Officer Megan Smith, US Chief Data Scientist DJ Patil, and Ford Foundation President Darren Walker.
