Jorge Lopez

Jorge provides legal counsel and operational support to the Foundation’s staff, management, and Board of Directors, assisting with a variety of legal, grants management, and corporate governance matters.

Prior to joining the Foundation, Jorge was an Associate Attorney with Adler & Colvin, a San Francisco-based law firm specializing in the representation of tax-exempt organizations and philanthropists. At Adler, Jorge’s practice focused on advising company and private foundations, public charities, and social welfare and religious organizations on all aspects of nonprofit corporate and tax-exempt law matters. Jorge began his legal career as an Associate Attorney at Coblentz Patch Duffy & Bass LLP in San Francisco, where he was a member of the tax, family wealth, and exempt organizations practice groups. Jorge was named a Rising Star by Super Lawyers magazine in 2017 and 2018.

Jorge holds a Master of Laws in Taxation, with Distinction, from Georgetown University Law Center, where he was also named to the Dean’s List. He obtained his JD from Loyola Law School, Los Angeles, and received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Chapman University.

Jorge is a member of the American Bar Association (Exempt Organizations Committee of the Tax Law Section). He also serves on the Advisory Board of the Luevano Foundation. Jorge was previously Chair of the Tax Section of the State Bar of California’s Exempt Organizations Committee, a member of the Northern California Planned Giving Council, and a member of the Pacific Coast TE/GE Exempt Organizations Council. Jorge has also served as an adjunct faculty member at Golden Gate University School of Law in San Francisco, where he taught courses on tax-exempt organizations in the LL.M. in taxation program. He has presented in the area of nonprofit law at the Center for Nonprofit and Volunteer Leadership and has conducted webinars and trainings on governance matters and tax issues facing nonprofit organizations.
