Claudia implements grantmaking strategies across the three areas of the Journalism & Media program: professional nonprofit reporting, nonfiction multimedia storytelling, and participatory civic media.

Prior to joining the Foundation, Claudia led global press freedom and journalist safety programs at the International Women’s Media Foundation (IWMF) from 2017 to 2022. As a program manager, she oversaw a $1.2 million annual portfolio of fellowships, grantmaking, and training programs to build a more diverse, representative, and safe news media landscape for women journalists. Between 2022 and 2025, she continued consulting for the IWMF, contributing to projects such as the 2024 report “Journalists Under Fire: U.S. Media Report Daily Threats, Harassment and Attacks at Home.”

Claudia has a background in international development with a focus on democracy strengthening, human rights, and gender equality. She has worked on a variety of international programs with the U.S. Agency for International Development, the UN Refugee Agency, Global Communities, and the Pan American Development Foundation.

Claudia earned her Master’s in Global Human Development from the Walsh School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University and her Bachelor’s in International Studies and Spanish Language and Latin American Area Studies from American University.
