Julie W. Welgus

Research Associate

Julie is responsible for both the program assistant and research functions for the team--managing the pre-award grant processes, working with grantees to ensure proposal materials are in line with Foundation requirements, and performing a variety of research and writing tasks in support of DML's grantmaking and strategy.

Previously, Julie was an arts education manager involved in the creation and implementation of a diverse range of cultural programs and education workshops at New York City Opera and The Morgan Library & Museum. She also spent several years as an on-air personality and music database coordinator for XM Satellite Radio’s On Broadway channel.

Julie is a graduate of Amherst College (B.A. Theater and Dance, magna cum laude) and Queen Mary, University of London (M.A. Performance Studies). She had been working on coursework towards a second Master’s degree in British and American Literature at Hunter College, City University of New York, prior to moving to Chicago in 2011.
