Powering Sovereignty: A Vision for a Just Energy Future
The Alliance for Tribal Clean Energy (ATCE) is an Indigenous-led nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing energy sovereignty and equitable clean energy development for Native American communities across the continental United States, Alaska, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico. At its core, the Alliance supports Tribes’ self-determined transition to clean, regenerative energy systems as a pathway to climate resilience, economic opportunity, and sovereignty.

Drawing on deep relationships with Tribal leaders, subject matter experts, federal partners, and cross-sector allies, the Alliance provides no-cost technical assistance, policy advocacy, education, and capacity building rooted in Indigenous values. Through these services, Tribes gain the guidance needed to plan, finance, and implement renewable energy projects — from solar and wind to energy storage and microgrids — with Tribal ownership and leadership at every step.
A key part of this work is informing more just and inclusive energy policy, ensuring that Tribal Nations are not sidelined in federal and state decision-making and that regulatory systems reflect Tribal sovereignty and priorities. The Alliance also convenes leaders at national gatherings, including the Tribal Energy Evolution Summit, where Tribal voices shape solutions to shared challenges and opportunities in clean energy development.
The Indigenous Power & Light Fund leverages the Alliance’s deep expertise and trusted network to deliver critical gap funding and support for Tribal clean energy projects. In the absence of federal funding, the Indigenous fund has become a lifeline, stepping in to cover essential costs, stabilize projects at risk, and ensure Tribal ownership and equitable partnerships remain at the center. It is enabling Tribes to replace diesel generation, electrify homes and villages, and strengthen essential community infrastructure while advancing long-term energy sovereignty.
Through this work, the Alliance is helping Tribal Nations reclaim control over their energy futures, fostering resilient communities, strengthening economies, and protecting the Earth for future generations.
