Doc Film best practices

With independent documentaries increasingly becoming a trusted source of information, filmmakers need to better leverage journalistic networks and resources to protect their work from pushback from powerful corporations and governments, according to a report by The Center for Media and Social Impact at American University. The MacArthur-supported report, Dangerous Documentaries: Reducing Risk when Telling Truth to Power, found that cultural divisions keep filmmakers and journalists apart, and filmmakers usually have less of a support system and are unaware of the journalistic resources they can turn to when facing certain risks. To mitigate against that, The Center compiled a list of best practices for filmmakers that it hopes will become an expanding, crowdsourced resource.
