The Inter-American Court of Human Rights has taken its first case concerning forced disappearances in Mexico, due in part to efforts by MacArthur grantee Centro de Derechos Humanos de las Mujeres. The case involves the forced disappearances of three people at the hands of state agents in Ejido Benito Juarez, in the Mexican state of Chihuahua. Forced disappearances in Mexico have been on the rise in recent years, and the case will afford the Court the opportunity to address officials’ impunity related to the issue and harassment suffered by family members of missing victims.
