The No Child Left Behind Act has led to the “narrowing of curriculum,” especially in urban schools, according to a recent study by the Center on Education Policy, a MacArthur grantee. The report said that more than 70 percent of surveyed school districts reduced instructional time on at least one subject to yield more time for teaching reading and mathematics—the subjects tested under the law.
