A total of 1,010 applications were received for fewer than 30 awards in a $2 million digital media and learning competition sponsored by the MacArthur Foundation and managed by HASTAC. The competition aims to identify and inspire new ideas about learning in an increasingly digital world. HASTAC, a network of digital innovators and educators, estimates that more than 40,000 unique visitors accessed the competition’s website during the two-month application period, which ended October 15. Winners will be announced in early 2008 and receive up to $250,000 from two categories: innovators building learning environments, and communicators of the field’s best new ideas. The competition is supported by a MacArthur grant to the University of California in collaboration with Duke University.
