The Chicago Symphony Orchestra, led by Deborah Rutter, announced that acclaimed musical director Riccardo Muti has signed a 5-year contract to serve as the Orchestra’s music director. Maestro Muti, a former violinist turned symphony manager, arrives in Chicago after 11 years with the Seattle Symphony. Rutter has led the Orchestra to its second year of budget surplus in a difficult economy, while continuing to uphold the artistic excellence of the Orchestra. The Foundation has supported the Orchestra since 1979.
