2015 • 4 years • MacArthur Award for Creative & Effective Institutions

Lookingglass Theatre Company, founded in 1988, creates and presents new works, stages world premieres, and offers education and outreach programs to students, teachers, and communities. It reaches approximately 50,000 people each year with its performances and outreach initiatives. Lookingglass is known for its emphasis on new work; imaginative, risk-taking productions; and stable organizational structure. Lookingglass ensemble members commit to the organization on a long-term basis and are responsible for driving and developing all elements of the company’s productions. A MacArthur Award recognizes organizations that have excellent programs, that are well-managed, and that are at an inflection point, where they are likely to grow either in size or influence. Lookingglass will allocate most of the award to an opportunity fund; the remaining portion will be used to support capacity building activities.
