The Campaign Legal Center is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization that works to reduce the influence of money in politics and to support unrestricted access to voting. The Center organizes its work into four areas: litigation, regulatory agency monitoring, policy, and communications. The Campaign Legal Center also convenes individuals and organizations from across the political spectrum to work together to pursue ethics reform in government. The Center, through a recently formed initiative, supports democracy reforms at the state and local levels, and helps lead efforts to coordinate the litigation response of the voting rights community to laws restricting voting access.

The Campaign Legal Center is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that monitors or participates in all of the significant lawsuits with implications for the campaign finance system and provides legal counsel to state attorneys’ general offices on campaign finance cases. The Center also conducts extensive monitoring of administrative agencies such as the FEC, IRS and SEC in an effort to move these agencies to enforce disclosure of campaign contributions required by law. It has also convened organizations from across the political spectrum to create a plan to pursue ethics reform in government.

The Campaign Legal Center applies deep legal expertise to upholding, strengthening, and enforcing campaign finance laws, and shaping the nation’s policy debate about money in politics. Founded in 2002 with prominent bipartisan leadership, the Campaign Legal Center works at the national, state and local levels to promote and defend campaign disclosure and public financing programs. It conducts litigation, policy analysis, and regulatory advocacy on federal campaign finance regulation, voting rights, lobbying regulation, and government ethics reform, and it monitors the Federal Election Commission, the Federal Communications Commission, and the Internal Revenue Service. This grant will support a reserve fund and a new web site.

It conducts public education, media outreach, policy consultation, and litigation. The Campaign Legal Center is a national leader in advocating for the proper enforcement of campaign finance laws, working to uphold and strengthen current campaign finance laws, and shaping the nation’s policy debate about money in politics and the prevention of government corruption. The Campaign Legal Center is one of only a handful of national organizations that works around the country to bring deep campaign finance legal expertise to the states. This grant will provide general support.
