2018 (1 year)
$125,000

Root Capital is an agricultural impact investor that grows rural prosperity in poor, environmentally vulnerable places in Africa and Latin America by lending capital, delivering financial training, and strengthening market connections for small and growing agricultural businesses. The organization has developed an innovative framework, the “Efficient Impact Frontier” that uses a quantitative approach to assess financial risk/return, expected social impact, and the relationship between them. In particular, this model enables Root to more effectively allocate their catalytic capital to those investments that create impact not otherwise addressable by market-rate capital. The funded activity advances Root Capital’s exploration of the Efficient Impact Frontier’s applicability to other investment sectors and capital types, thus improving impact measurement and reporting and, in turn, mobilizing more impact investment capital.
