Sunrise Movement Education Fund

This award renews general operating support to Sunrise Movement Education Fund (SMEF). Sunrise is a youth movement working to generate political action on climate change by growing recognition in the United States that climate change is an urgent priority, ending the corrupting influence of the fossil fuel industry on politics, and electing leaders who stand up for the health and wellbeing of all people. SMEF achieves its mission by training a base of volunteers in key organizing skills and educating the public about the dire threat of the climate crisis as well as the bold, equitable solutions proposed by the Green New Deal. This two-year renewal of general operating support resources SMEF during a period of transition, which aims to build stronger state and local youth movement around more ambitious and holistic climate action.

Sunrise Movement Education Fund (Sunrise) is a youth-led movement to generate political action on climate change. The Sunrise Movement Education Fund does this by training volunteers in community organizing and taking high profile action as a unified movement. Sunrise draws attention to the moral urgency of the climate crisis and provides a powerful platform for demanding bold, equitable, transformative policy solutions. This award provides two years of general operating support.
