2023 (3 years)
$750,000

Founded in 2019, the Southland Development Authority (SDA) seeks to reestablish Chicago’s South Suburbs (“the Southland”) as a central hub of economic activity for the Chicagoland region, revitalizing the area as a unique set of communities that celebrates and engages its rich history and diversity. SDA accomplishes this mission by providing technical assistance to burgeoning community groups, coordinating with local municipalities seeking to develop economic corridors, helping to assemble development deals, and attracting businesses that offer services reflecting community members’ desires. To accomplish the goal of stimulating economic growth in Chicago’s Southland, SDA proposes to expand its community engagement ecosystem, which weaves together residents, nonprofit organizations, and municipal development entities to coordinate and align economic development efforts and activities in the Southland region.
