The Puerto Rican Arts Alliance (PRAA) is a 25 year-old community-based organization dedicated to preserving and showcasing Puerto Rican arts and culture. PRAA's educational music and arts programs serve youth and adults to increase cross-cultural and inter-generational understanding. PRAA is known for its annual musical Cuatro Festival and its El Archivo program, a visual and oral history archive that documents Puerto Rican migration to Chicago. This award provides general operating support to PRAA in the Culture, Equity, and the Arts area of the Chicago Commitment strategy.
Founded in 1988, the Puerto Rican Arts Alliance is dedicated to preserving Puerto Rican culture by maintaining traditions, showcasing arts, providing education, and cultivating pride in the Puerto Rican community. Offering programs across Chicago, it works to bring new awareness to artistic expressions of Puerto Rico and the Caribbean. With this International Connections Fund award, the Puerto Rican Arts Alliance collaborates with the Center for the Advanced Studies on Puerto Rico in San Juan, Puerto Rico to help to rebuild the artistic vitality of the island as it recovers from Hurricane Maria in 2017.
To support board development, technology upgrades and program development related to moving to a permanent facility in 2010 (over three years).
