Established in 2020, The ChiArts Foundation (Foundation) supports the Chicago Public High School for the Arts (ChiArts), Chicago’s first public high school dedicated to the arts. ChiArts provides a comprehensive college preparatory curriculum alongside pre-professional arts training, with a particular interest in nurturing student artists from communities of color. ChiArts and the Foundation work together as a public-private partnership to support the academic, artistic, social, and emotional development of approximately 600 students each year. The Foundation is mainly responsible for fundraising for ChiArts’ five conservatories in creative writing, dance, theatre, music, and visual arts. This award provides general operating support to the ChiArts Foundation in the Culture, Equity, and the Arts area of the Chicago Commitment strategy.

2021 (3 years)
$225,000

The ChiArts Foundation supports the Chicago Public High School for the Arts, Chicago’s first public high school dedicated to the arts. In addition to a rigorous academic curriculum, students learn from artist-led courses in five conservatories: creative writing, dance, theatre, music, and visual arts. The school reflects Chicago’s racial diversity. Incoming classes include a mixture of talented and motivated students with little or no artistic training and students who have years of formal training. In addition to educational and artistic instruction, each student receives one-on-one post-secondary counseling services. This award provides general operating support to the ChiArts Foundation as part of the MacArthur Foundation’s Culture, Equity, and the Arts program.
