Launched on the 25th anniversary of the enactment of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, Disability Lead is a nonprofit organization that encourages the civic involvement of Chicagoans with disabilities. Its Leadership Institute equips 16-20 emerging leaders each year with the skills to succeed in appointed positions, on boards, and in other public service roles. Disability Lead also researches the impact of disabled leaders and amplifies the perspectives of the disability community. The organization has developed an extensive membership network promoting disability inclusion. This gift for general operating support facilitates the overall work of Disability Lead as it conducts a public opinion study on how Chicagoans experience disability in everyday life.
