Support for 200 arts and cultural organizations in Chicago and the region is an expression of civic commitment to the place where the Foundation has its headquarters and John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur made their home. Grants are designed to help sustain the cultural life of the city and region.
The MacArthur-supported Cultural Infrastructure Project investigates large building projects undertaken by arts organizations in major U.S. cities to assess the extent to which these projects have a positive and negative impact on the long-term viability of an arts organization and its surrounding community. MacArthur has established a new resource, the Working Capital Loan Fund for Arts and Culture, for arts and culture organizations that are current grantees of the Foundation. Read more »
Capacity Building: Midwest is a two-year program, led by Michael Kaiser, President of The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, which provides arts management training to over 30 culturally-specific arts organizations in the Midwest, most from the Chicago area. Eligible organizations must focus on producing artistic work that is for, by, or about African American, Latin American, Asian American, or Native American people. The program is jointly funded by the MacArthur Foundation, the Boeing Company, and The Joyce Foundation and will run until 2011.
