Elspeth A. Revere

Elspeth Revere is Vice President of the General Program of the John D. & Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation. Her responsibilities include support for media in a technologically changing environment; a changing set of special initiatives – most recently an initiative on intellectual property and the public domain; arts and culture in Chicago; grants in response to special opportunities, and the Foundation's program of institutional grants.
Revere joined the Foundation as a program officer in 1991. She was promoted to Associate Director of the program in 1992, to Director in 1998 and to Vice President in 2006. Prior to joining the Foundation, she was President of the Woodstock Institute, a nonprofit policy research organization working to increase private sector investment in low-income neighborhoods, Director of Program Development for the city of Chicago's Department of Housing, and a Senior Planner in the Department of Development and Planning. She has also worked on community development projects in Guatemala.
Revere holds a master's degree in urban policy and planning from the University of Illinois at Chicago and a bachelor's degree in anthropology from the University of Chicago.

Kathy K. Im

Kathy Im is Director of the General Program of the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation. She is responsible for a domestic and international portfolio that includes the Foundation’s work in independent media, technology and its impact on users, and special initiatives.
Prior to joining the Foundation, Kathy was a Fellow with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Previously, she worked at the Bank of America Foundation, the Polk Bros. Foundation, and the Field Foundation of Illinois. Kathy is a 2007 Leadership Greater Chicago Fellow, a civic program for Chicago leaders. She is also a board member of Asian Americans/Pacific Islanders in Philanthropy and a co-founder of the Asian Giving Circle.
Kathy Im earned her bachelor's degree in government from Smith College and her master's in Public Policy from the University of Chicago, where she was a founder and Editor-in-Chief of the Chicago Policy Review.

John S. Bracken

John S. Bracken is a program officer in the General Program. He works on the Foundation's media grantmaking program, a recently-completed initiative on intellectual property and the public domain, and other areas of special interest to the Foundation. He also chairs a Foundation committee on technology grantmaking. Previously, he worked at the Ford Foundation as a program associate on its portfolios in news media and media policy and technology. He has also worked for the Center for Media Education, where he analyzed the social impact of new technologies, and managed a series of media research projects for the Center for Bioethics at the University of Pennsylvania. John is a 2009 fellow of Leadership Greater Chicago. He has a Masters Degree from the Annenberg School for Communication at the University of Pennsylvania and a Bachelors Degree from Pitzer College in Claremont, California.
