The Pinchot Institute is a forest research and conservation policy organization that works in the U.S. and in Ecuador, where it has been engaged in forest management for 12 years providing technical assistance to a community forestry enterprise in Esmeraldas Province.The goal of the project is to develop natural forest management and agroforestry as economic alternatives to clearing of Ecuador’s Pacific forests for agriculture and illegal logging, which currently provide a higher economic return to forest communities than they can realize by protecting and managing their forests.
