MAIDUGURI, NIGERIA — The purpose of this grant is to promote and protect human rights as a result of the activities of non-state (Boko Haram) and state (Joint Task Force) actors in selected states of northern Nigeria. Four broad components of the project are 1) the documentation of human rights abuses in the affected states, 2) research on the activities and impact of Boko Haram, 3) public interest litigation on behalf of victims of human rights abuses, and 4) convening policy dialogues among various interest groups to discuss possible solutions to the problems of insecurity and human rights violations.
The MacArthur Foundation awarded University of Maiduguri Centre for Peace and Development $300,000 between 2010 and 2013.
