Conservation & Sustainable Development
VIENTIANE, LAOS — The Saola Working Group will develop and trial two potential solutions to two key conservation challenges, using the critically endangered Saola (Pseudoryx nghetinhensis) as an entry point. They will pilot a new method to detect and monitor threatened Annamite endemics in the wild. Through more accurate identification of these species' local distribution, the working group will foster direct community engagement to stem the decline of globally threatened wildlife in the Annamites, such as the Saola, Annamite Dark Muntjac, and Large-antlered Muntjac.
The MacArthur Foundation awarded Saola Working Group $75,000 between 2010 and 2013.
