Grants

2012 (1 year)
$200,000

The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) is an independent agency that provides economic, development and humanitarian assistance around the world in support of the foreign policy goals of the United States. The goal of this grant is to engage USAID and other development professionals in debates with thought leaders about future development challenges and possible solutions, and ultimately to strengthen the analysis, design, and implementation of USAID programs and policies aimed at fostering development and reducing poverty in developing countries. This goal will be achieved through an international conference and publication titled The Frontiers in Development. The proposed conference will take place at Georgetown University, and will be designed to stimulate provocative and forward-looking debate featuring leading global thinkers and practitioners and address some of the biggest challenges facing developing countries in the decade ahead. Key topics will include the evolving relationships between democracy and development, climate change and the implications for agriculture and food security, the nexus of security and development, and the increasing applications of new technologies to provide better health, education and other public services. Ideas generated before, during, and after the conference will strengthen USAID programs and policies.
