Mental Health

A report by the State Health Care Spending Project, a joint initiative of MacArthur and The Pew Charitable Trusts, seeks to better explain the country’s mental health challenges and, in particular, the states’ role in addressing them. The report finds that 18.5 percent of American adults had a mental illness in 2013 and that state and local governments spent $35.5 billion on mental health treatment in 2009.
