In all 50 states, in both staunchly Republican and Democratic counties, the majority of Americans support teaching children about global warming, its causes, and prevention strategies in schools, according to surveys from the MacArthur-supported Yale Program on Climate Change Communications. Seventy-eight percent of Americans support education on the scientific basis for climate change, though legislative debates lag public opinion and a significant gap remains in public understanding of the scientific consensus, with 32 percent attributing climate change to natural causes. The Yale program’s interactive map explores further data on American opinions on climate change.
