A study by the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project reveals a widespread sentiment that corrupt practices – including bribery and nepotism – in Nigeria’s federal university system are neither investigated nor punished. In the MacArthur-supported survey, 1,500 students and staff at two federal universities responded that corruption has negatively affected the quality of education in Nigeria and that most corruption cases in university systems are not investigated and do not result in sanctions. The report offers recommendations to help address the issue, including the establishment of systems to investigate and punish wrongdoers in universities and the organization of anticorruption training sessions and campaigns.
